Adding and Subtracting Radicals

When adding and subtracting radicals you treat the radicands as variables.

Example

3sqrt(5) + 4sqrt(5) = 7sqrt(5)

However, we cannot add together a radicand that is different as in

3sqrt(5) + 4sqrt(2)
